The Chair Writes – Patrick Quartion SCA Chair

Hello everyone and welcome to the 3rd edition of “The Chair Writes” from the Structural Concrete Alliance.

This year has been a very testing year for so many of us and I hope that everyone is keeping safe and well during this period. I think it is important to reflect upon the invaluable work our members, many of whom were classed as critical workers, have completed during the pandemic.

This year, the Sprayed Concrete Association sees itself in a better financial position than it did 5 years ago, and therefore, we are looking to invest this in training and continue to promote the operative training certification scheme by incorporating a more robust application for ID cards.

The Structural Concrete Alliance training committee, led by Michael Threadgold of Fosroc, have been busy reviewing the industry qualification alongside CITB. These qualifications will soon be launched by the industry and will include Level 2 for:

  • Concrete Repair & Protection
  • Installing Corrosion Protection Systems
  • Installing Composite Strengthening Systems
  • Spray application of Repair mortars
  • Survey and testing concrete structures

We will also shortly be running an assessors training course to ensure the industry has enough qualified assessors to meet the industry’s needs.

I hope to be able to see everyone face to face next year and I would also like to thank all our members for their continued support this year. Finally, have a lovely Christmas and a happy New Year.
